Norwich Hasler (17 May 2015)

19/5/2015

Some excellent results from the Norwich Hasler, with a total of 10 medals for the team.  In singles Laura gained a silver, while Josh, Ricky and Toby all took bronze in their respective races. All three of our doubles boats were amongst the top placings, with bronzes for Paul & Richard, silvers for Jacq & Dave and golds for Ian & Carley.

Laura, Ricky, Toby and Oscar have all been promoted a division - well done guys!
LATE ADDITION: Ian & Clarley and Jacque & Dave are also promoted.

Despite all of this, the total score of 224 points for Bishops Stortford was not quite enough to overtake Leighton Buzzard CC (227 points) and BSCC ended the event in 4th place. Norwich were 1st and Chelmsford 2nd. See the Eastern Region League Table on the Results page.

The results have had an interesting effect on the club's Woodcock trophy points, with Oscar overtaking his dad to move into top position, and Toby zooming into joint fifth place.

Nottingham Sprints (9-10 May)

15/5/2015

Eleven of Stortford's best paddlers went up to the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, to take part in May's National Sprint Regatta, which was also the Masters National & Open Championships.

Toby Booth (pictured, receiving his certificate from Pete Moule the Chair of the Sprint Committee) did exceptionally well, winning every race that he entered. He was overall winner in K1 MiniSprint A 500m (3:03.66), and partnered paddlers from Lincoln CC  for K2 500m (2:46.13), and K4 MiniSprint A/B 500m (2:36.96).

Other highlights included a 1st for Heidi White in Girls D K1 500m (2:43.70), and two silvers for Laura Warbrick paddling in Womens D K1 500m (2:35.15) and 200m (59.60). Heidi has been promoted to Girls C, and Laura to Womens C - well done to both!

Paul Surrage partnered Mel Bennett in the Men's Over-54 1000m K2 race to 3rd place (5:43:08) and a Championship Bronze medal.

The official results are online.

Bedford Hasler (3 May 2015)

5/5/2015

Some excellent results at Bedford, bringing the Stortford team an overall 4th place (see calculated Eastern Region league table). The torrential rain cleared up by the time the racing actually began, though there was enough of a breeze to keep the water very bumpy.
Ant and Will competing in K2 at the 2015 Bedford Hasler
Particular highlights included Silver medals for Will & Ant in Div 7 doubles, and for Mike T in Div 7 singles. In a spectacular performance on the long course, Joe S took third place paddling up into the amalgamated Div2/3 singles race and has been promoted to Div 2. Laura too won a Bronze in Div 5, with Heidi just seconds behind her. Robbie, returning to racing after a long break, entered the Div 6 race, came 4th, and has been promoted to Div 5.  There was also a impressive performance from 11-yr old Toby in only his second marathon race since leaving Lightnings behind.

Div 8/9: Gary Aldam & Malcolm Duckworth 8th (46:26)
