Internal club events
The club runs two internal time trials series for members, for Sprint and a longer-established Marathon series. See below for further details of each. Upcoming dates also appear on the Events Calendar.
Sprint Time Trials

The sprint series was begun in 2022, with the aim of allowing paddlers to measure their improvement over time and in particular to prepare paddlers to take part in the prestigious National Sprint Regattas, for which there are fixed qualifying times.
The time trials will generally be held on Sunday mornings, and spread throughout the summer. The events will consist of a 500m sprint starting from the S-bend (on the club stretch), and finishing outside the clubhouse. There are of course no portages on a race of this distance, and paddlers will be set off individually to race against the clock to produce the fastest time they can. This event is open to all members, and there are no entry requirements or prerequisites. The time trial will be run as a handicap event, meaning that everyone has a shot at winning the time trial, and the series. The trophy has been named in honour of former member James Smythe, who passed away in 2022. Your coach, or the Sprint Team Leader (Rich Winstanley), will be able to provide more information. |

Roger Davey Marathon Time Trials

BSCC holds regular time trials over 5K or 10K, now named the Roger Davey Time Trial Series in memory of long-time coach Roger "Dodge" Davey. A handicap system is used and paddlers score points for improved performance. You can see the courses used here
The long-established "Stort Blade" (held on Boxing Day) and the Midsummer Dash (nearest Wednesday evening to Midsummer day) have been incorporated into this series. Participation in these is rewarded with 1.5x points. Please send any queries to Joe Fitzpatrick, or speak to your coach about taking part. |
