Waterside D (13 Mar 2016)

14/3/2016

Danny Beazley, paddling for Bishops Stortford, was partnered by James Smythe (Leaside CC), in the last race of the Waterside Series yesterday. The race covered 34 miles from Devizes to Newbury with 35 portages. The pair made their fourth successive win in the Vet K2 class with a time of 4:42:18. As well as finishing first out the 25 boats in this class, Danny & James were also the third fastest out of all the K2s. They of course won the series trophy for Vet K2 with a total time of 11:54:02. Everything is looking good for their participation in the 125-mile DW at Easter!
Other club members participating were the new Mixed K2 crew of Octavia Abbott and Chris Sze. Unfortunately they were one of the three crews that had to retire from this class.

This was the final event of the series, so also included the presentation of the trophies for performance across all six races of the series.

Danny Beazley, not paddling on this occasion in order to act as race organiser, had already clocked up five wins in the previous Men's Vet K1, so was easily the winner of this class.

Other series trophies were won for Stortford by:

K1 M u14, 2nd place - Murdo White
K1 F u14, 2nd place - Yazmin Layzell
Marathon C2, 1st place - Malcolm Duckworth & Gary Aldam
GP F, 2nd place - Deborah Cayford

The full list of series placings for each class can be downloaded from the FRA website.

BSCC took third place overall in the series, second place in Dick Grieve points for performance by unranked juniors, and was awarded the Bob Porter Trophy for the highest turnout of under 12s. See the club series results. The Winter Series league table can be found on the BSCC results page.
