A small group of Stortford paddlers went to Herts Young Mariners Base to take part in the second FRA Sprint Regatta of the Summer Series. The 500m K1 races were held on the river, and then the paddlers transferred to the lake for the 200m K1s. Gold medals were won by Catherine and Rywin in their respective classes, and Ryewin also made a big improvement to her personal best 500m time. Yazmin was the fastest Stortford paddler and took silver in the u14 Girls class, in which Emilia also won bronze. The full results can be seen on the Summer Series Results page of the FRA website, together with a table of the points accumulated so far towards the end-of-series trophies. The last of the summer's regattas took place at Bishops Stortford on Sunday. The club played host to visiting teams from Chelmsford, Ealing, Herts Young Mariners and Viking. Together with a good turnout from the home team, there were a total of 59 competitors. The 500m K1 heats were followed by the 200m heats. During the lunch break, crews were formed for K2 races, which took place over 500m and 2000m. Cllr Daniel Abbott, Mayor of Bishops Stortford dropped by briefly to encourage the young competitors, but was unfortunately unable to stay for the prizegiving as planned - however, deputy Mayor Cllr Colin Woodward kindly stepped into the breech at short notice. Eight Stortford paddlers took part in the 2nd regatta of the FRA Summer Series, held at Herts Young Mariners Base, Cheshunt. Everyone came away with a medal. A special well done goes to Ryewin, Yazmin and Jessica, who were all competing for the first time.

This weekend turned out to be another eventful Nottingham for the Bishop's Stortford Canoe Club team, made up of 13 paddlers. There were a total of 38 races that included Stortford paddlers and the races ranged across 200m, 500m and 1000m, in K1 and K2. The weather conditions were their usual self with a very strong constant head wind, but sometimes there was some sunshine. The wind brought down times considerably.
Heidi raced in Girls D along with Emily S. The 200m event saw Heidi coming 2nd in her heat and Emily coming 3rd. Heidi went on to come second in the final with a time of 1:03:90 and Emily S raced in Final 3 where she got a time of 1:12:30. Ella and Heidi then teamed up in the Girls C 200m K2 and came second with a time of 55:26. Sunday saw good progress from Ella again where she came 2nd in her 500m heat. The wind became even worse early Sunday afternoon when Joe, Matt and Sim had their Mens B 500m heats in K1 and Ella had her 500m K1 final. The waves hit a real high and brought times to over 30 seconds higher than people's targets. Joe placed 3rd in his heat with a time of 2:25:62 with Matt just behind with a time of 2:29:33. Ella raced in her final even though conditions worsened, but she still managed to come 4th with a time of 3:10:31 The wind affected the heat times for Mens B and so the final was cancelled and soon all C and D category races were cancelled due to the weather. An hour later and the rest of the regatta was cancelled leaving Emily G and Izzy missing out on their K4 race with two other girls from the Sprinting Futures team and Matt and Joe missing the 5K race which meant Matt couldn't make a come back from his earlier loss to Joe. There was also some competition over the weekend between Ricky ad Paul in the Master D K1 200m race. Ricky was able to get a time of 1:04:50, which ended up placing him slightly ahead of Paul with a time of 1:04:80. Paul also teamed up with Mel to race in the 1000m and 200m distances. Well done to all Stortford paddlers for another long Nottingham weekend.
