A combination of factors - probably including half term holidays and a late change of date - caused some major clubs to send reduced teams to this race. It made a change for the Stortford team of 20 not to find itself vastly outnumbered by those from bigger clubs. Nevertheless, the total turnout of 89 competitors was still enough for a good day's racing.

The country was experiencing a record-breaking May heatwave, with temperatures in Bedford reaching 28 degrees C. Despite these sweltering conditions, the whole Stortford team gave their all and nobody from Stortford was timed out.

These together with solid performances from the rest of the team brought the BSCC team 591 points and victory at this race. Norwich CC were second with 590 and Leighton Buzzard CC third with 586.
